I build agents and the platforms under them.

Founding engineer at Obvious, where I took our agent from a script to a software factory. Before that, four years at Flatfile going from Senior SWE to Agent Engineering Lead. Below: what I'm shipping next, then the whole history.

SHIPPING / the next few weeks, in public

  1. ShippedOct 2026
    Mechanics of the Rock

A billiards physics engine in Rust, validated against pooltool, and an AI coach whose tools run the engine on your phone.

  2. ShippedLive
    Outside

My stage races on the Strava API, drawn over real elevation data, stage by stage.

  3. BuildingThis week

Why I built a pool coach

Mechanics of the Rock started as a way to see the physics, keep track of my practice, and actually get better at pool. What it shows me, and how it got built.

  4. NextSpec'd

    Transcribe

Drop in a recording, get a draft part you fix while listening: the horn pulled out of the band, any bar looped with a click, Claude suggesting fixes. Starting with a trombone solo.

  5. NextWk of Nov 2

    Race Debrief

Ask my stage races questions. Deterministic tools do the math, every answer cites the ride, and the evals live on the page.

  6. NextWk of Nov 9

    Agent traces

Replay a coach run step by step: which tools ran on the phone, which on the server, and what each one was allowed to do.

  7. NextWk of Nov 9

    Sourced Coach

Answers that cite their sources, then run the physics to check them, and say so when the two disagree.

  8. NextWk of Nov 16

    Routing table

One eval suite across models: accuracy, latency, and cost per correct answer, and the routing rule that falls out of it.

HISTORY / thirteen years and counting

ObviousMar 2025 – Present
Founding Member of Technical StaffSan Francisco

AI at the intersection of creativity. Startup under 50 people.

Building tools that put AI in the hands of creative people: the agent runs in E2B sandboxes with infinite context, skills, and connectors. Built the platform underneath: billing structure, usage metrics, workspace and team sharing, and the management and marketing content. Building the decision-model plumbing that keeps agent loops honest. Small team, fast pace, hard problems. The kind of place where your work is the product.

Agent Engineering LeadDenver / Remote

Four promotions over four years. Senior SWE to Agent Engineering Lead.

Started as Senior SWE. Shipped the Plugin Library with AI at its core. Presented at Dev Day. Led the Developer Experience team. Ended up running agent engineering. The arc: individual contributor to team lead, data onboarding to AI agents. The throughline was always the same — make hard things feel easy.

Independent Engineer & PhotographerColorado

A decade on my own. Engineering for clients, photography for myself.

Ten years of choosing my own problems. Built software for startups and studios. Shot chiaroscuro portraits in the mountains. Learned that the best work happens when nobody is telling you what to make — and that discipline is what makes that freedom possible.

Design studio focused on movement, typography, story, and strategy.

Lead engineer at a studio where the designers cared about kerning and the engineers cared about easing curves. Built sites and apps for brands that cared about the details. Learned that movement is meaning — how something enters a screen changes what it says.

Built Ruby on Rails inventory management for a drone company.

Six months at a drone company. Built the inventory system that tracked every part on every shelf. Short stint, specific problem, clean solution. Sometimes that's the whole job.

Media production company. Where it started.

My first real engineering job. Built websites and tools for a media production company in Omaha. Learned that the web is a storytelling medium, and that code is just the scaffolding.

Four subjects. One degree. A lot of late nights.

CS for the engineering. Physics for the rigor. Philosophy for the questions. Music for the rest. None of them were a mistake.
